For this month's episode of A COPY OF A COPY, Ray and Rob are revisiting a favorite genre, spaghetti westerns, to examine a remake they're dubbing the "spiritual remake". A movie that isn't a direct remake, but an homage to a specific film or genre. To do this, they're watching the Sergio Leone classic THE GOOD, THE BAD & THE UGLY and the 2008 South Korean homage, THE GOOD, THE BAD, THE WEIRD. Both films center on a trio of characters on the search for a treasure, but both take their own distinct paths to get to their explosive conclusions. 
Leone's classic holds the heart of many, which most call the best the genre has to offer, while its South Korean counterpart came at a time where the western genre was having a moment within their cultural film community. But does it do enough to truly capture the spaghetti western genre thus calling it a remake? Tune in to find out!

We're kicking off the month of April with Rob's episode of SAY HELLO TO MY LITTLE FILM! He continues to push Ray out of his comfort zone by recommending the 1989 Body Horror/Dark Comedy HOW TO GET AHEAD IN ADVERTISING! It centers on pompous ad executive Denis Bagley, who is neck deep in formulating a new campaign for a pimple cream, when he begins to question the moral validity of his profession. However, something decides to pop-up to force Denis back into the life he began to shun. This British cult classic stars Richard E. Grant (GOSFORD PARK, DEATH OF A UNICORN) in a truly Gonzo performance and sees him reteaming with director Bruce Robinson following their hit WITHNAIL AND I.
A cynical and hard-hitting take on the state of advertising in the modern world, HOW TO GET AHEAD IN ADVERTISING finds a prescience for a world they didn't realize we would be living in in the year 2026. But will Bruce Robinson's rage at the late Thatcher-era England prove to be too preachy for Ray? Or will he be able to overcome the body horror elements to find something worthwhile? March is a five Monday month and that means it's time again for another Kid's special edition of SAY HELLO TO MY LITTLE FILM! That also means we're welcoming back Ray and Rob's favorite co-host, Mr. KittyKaiju! For his first episode of the season, Ray and Rob have decided to kick things off with a bang by recommending to him one of their favorite movies from their childhood, the 1987 Mel Brooks classic, SPACEBALLS!
A send-up of all things Star Wars (with a mixture of other famous sci-fi franchises), the film centers on Lonestar, a rugged space smuggler who along with his sidekick Barf, are enlisted to rescue Princess Vespa and her companion droid Dot Matrix from the evil hands of Dark Helmet and his legion of Spaceballs! Starring Bill Pullman (INDEPENDANCE DAY, CASPER), Daphne Zuniga (THE SURE THING, MODERN GIRLS), John Candy (PLANES, TRAINS AND AUTOMOBILES, UNCLE BUCK) and Rick Moranis (STREETS OF FIRE, HONEY, I SHRUNK THE KIDS), this comedy classic is Mel Brooks at the top of his game. A film for all ages! However, the generational divide is not always easy to traverse, so will Mr. KittyKaiju love this movie as much as Ray and Rob does? You're going to have to tune in to find out!

It's almost the end of March and that means it's time for a brand-new episode of HELLO MOVIES, MY OLD FRIEND! Ray and Rob have decided to revisit the 1988 Australian comedy YOUNG EINSTEIN! This passion project written/directed/starring Australian mad man Yahoo Serious is an absurdist fictional take on the life of renowned genius Albert Einstein. Throwing historical accuracy to the wind, Yahoo Serious takes young Albert from a humble apple farmer in the Australian outback to the halls of Paris in his quest to make his mark as a famous scientist. When his formula for splitting a beer atom puts him on the radar of fellow scientific rebel Marie Curie (Played by Odile Le Clezio), their budding romance puts Albert in the crosshairs of Preston Preston, a fellow intent on winning Marie's affections by stealing Albert brilliance.
While the events are highly fabricated, the message of remaining true to who you are remains the central focus of Albert's story. Will Yahoo Serious's quirky and irreverent style still ring true with the nostalgia that Ray and Rob have for this movie? Tune in to find out!

Car RayRob is back with a brand-new episode of SAY HELLO TO MY LITTLE FILM! 
It's Ray's turn and he's bringing something we've never done on our flagship show, an animated feature! He's recommending to Rob the 2022 animated hit PUSS IN BOOTS: THE LAST WISH! This third installment of the SHREK spinoff centers on the titular character, voiced as always by the great Antonio Banderas (DESPERADO, SPY KIDS), as he searches for the mythical "Last Wish" which he hopes to use to replenish his nine lives, which is has found himself at the end of. In his quest, he reunites with Kitty Softpaws (Voiced by Selma Hayek) and Perrito, marking the first franchise appearance of Harvey Guillen (WHAT WE DO IN THE SHADOWS, WEREWOLVES WITHIN). This trio must ward off other interested parties, as well as The Wolf, who is hellbent on ending Puss's final life. 
While Rob is very familiar with the Shrek franchise, these spinoffs have eluded him. However, Ray swears you can jump in on the third movie and not miss a beat! Tune in to find out if he's right and to find out if Rob loves this movie as much as Ray!

Car RayRob are back with a brand-new episode of A COPY OF A COPY! 
For this week's pair of films, Ray and Rob are tackling a new kind of remake they have yet to discuss, the American film remade for a foreign audience! They're doing this by revisiting Alexander Payne's 2004 Dramedy classic SIDEWAYS, as well as the 2009 Japanese language remake, SAIDOWEIZU!
Both films center on a down on their luck writer who takes their quasi-famous actor best friend to California wine country for his bachelor party, and the shenanigans that ensue forces both men to reexamine their life choices and ultimately decide how they want to spend their rest of their lives. Each film picks a different area within California to focus their stories, and each one examines the complexity of failure and success in both life and love through their respective cultural lenses!  
We often see foreign films remade for American audiences, but the reverse is much less common. Tune in to find out how SAIDOWEIZU stacks up against the classic original!

It's a brand-new month which means a brand-new slate of episodes here at Car RayRob!
For Rob's episode of SAY HELLO TO MY LITTLE FILM, he's decided to bring his first challenge of the year by recommending to Ray the John Cassavetes classic A WOMAN UNDER THE INFLUENCE! This gem of art house filmmaking is one of Cassavetes numerous collaborations with real-life wife Gena Rowlands (OPENING NIGHT, THE NOTEBOOK), in a truly powerhouse performance. Rowlands stars as Mabel, a working-class mother whose mental health becomes questionable after a night out on her own after being stood up by her husband, Nick, played by Peter Falk (COLUMBO, WINGS OF DESIRE). 
While Cassavetes is widely held as one of Hollywood's great directors, he can be divisive among film viewers. His gritty, ultra-realistic style has been said to make his films a taxing experience on the audience. Because of this, there is no guarantee that Ray is going to like this film. 
Will Gena Rowland's performance for the ages hook Ray into her tale of woe? Or will Cassavetes almost cinema-verité style prove too much for Ray to handle? Tune in to find out!

The month of love is almost gone, but before it's over, we're back with a brand-new episode of HELLO MOVIES, MY OLD FRIEND where Ray and Rob are revisiting the 1991 romantic comedy DOC HOLLYWOOD! This Michael J. Fox (BACK TO THE FUTURE, LIFE WITH MIKEY) classic centers on Ben Stone, a hot shot DC doctor who is traveling cross country for a big-time job interview. On his journey, he accidentally destroys the fence of a local judge and in recompence he has to perform community service as the small town's doctor. With a laundry list of recognizable supporting performances including Julie Warner (MR. SATURDAY NIGHT, TOMMY BOY), David Ogden Stiers (M*A*S*H, BEAUTY AND THE BEAST), Bridget Fonda (SINGLES, JACKIE BROWN) and Woody Harrelson (WHITE MEN CAN'T JUMP, NATURAL BORN KILLERS), DOC HOLLYWOOD stands as a great edition to an era in Michael J. Fox's career that is often criminally overlooked.

It's Ray's turn at the February fun and he's decided to go a slightly different direction. He's decided to highlight a film that centers on the love between two best friends. For this, he's recommending to Rob the 1971 Sport classic BRIAN'S SONG! This film centers on the real-life story of Brian Piccolo and Gayle Sayers, two Chicago Bear rookies who begin their relationship as rivals for the same spot on the team to becoming the best of friends. But when tragedy strikes, their friendship is put to the test as the strength it takes from both could be more than either can bear. Portrayed by James Caan (THE GODFATHER, THIEF) and Billy Dee Williams (STAR WARS, MAHOGANY) respectively, this sports classic is heralded as not only being one of the best of the genre but also is considered to be one of the greatest made-for-television movies ever made!
Will this heart wrenching tale of friendship and adversity prove enough to capture Rob's admiration? Or will the made-for-television production leave him wanting more? Tune in this week to find out!

The month of love continues here at Car RayRob! For our brand-new episode of A COPY OF A COPY, Ray and Rob have decided to examine one the greatest romantic comedies of all time by watching Bill Wilder's indelible classic SABRINA, as well as the Sydney Pollock's 1995 remake!
Both films center on Sabrina Fairchild (Played in the original by the legendary Audrey Hepburn), the daughter of a chauffeur for the Larrabee family, a wealthy industrialist magnate. Sabrina grows up with her eyes set on David, the shiftless playboy of the family who barely knows she exists, portrayed in Wilder's original by William Holden (STALAG 17, THE WILD BUNCH) and Greg Kinnear in Pollock's remake. When Sabrina leaves to spend time in Paris, she believes she is growing beyond David's spell. However, when David finds himself engaged for the benefit of the family's business, she once again is pulled into his orbit as her worldly transformation finally garners his affections. To head off his infatuation with Sabrina, the duty falls on his brother Linus, played by Humphrey Bogart in the original and Harrison Ford in the remake, to protect the family's interests and break up the shenanigans. The original holds a very special place in Rob's heart and with Ray's newfound love of both Billy Wilder and Humphrey Bogart, the remake has a tough road ahead.
