Say Hello to My Little Film: Episode 117 - The American Friend

In this week's episode, it's Rob's turn to try to break his losing streak by recommending to Ray Wim Wender's (WINGS OF DESIRE, PERFECT DAYS) 1977 neo-noir drama THE AMERICAN FRIEND, starring Bruno Gantz (NOSFERATU THE VAMPYRE, WINGS OF DESIRE) and Dennis Hopper (in his return to SHMLF)! 

Gantz plays Jonathan Zimmerman, an esteemed German picture framer who discovers he has a rare and deadly illness. In an attempt to provide for his family, he becomes embroiled in a murder for hire scheme at the recommendation of Tom Ripley, played by Dennis Hopper. As Jonathan sinks deeper and deeper into the plan, he risks losing his family, as well as his life. In a film that drips with atmosphere anchored by powerful performances and the beautiful cinematography of Robby Müller, Wim Wenders creates an unforgettable story of desperation and the lengths you'll go to for your family.
